Back Lake

The Back Lake (also described as Stewart Park Small Lake on Google Maps) is one of three small lakes. These small lakes are all linked together by channels. Access to these bodies of water in earlier times was restricted due to overgrowth, hence, the lakes were described as, "Secret." The 3 ornamental lakes you see here were restored by the lottery grant. All 3 were drained, dredged and disinfected and left to refill gradually.

There are no surface streams feeding or draining these lakes. A variety of water birds inhabit the lakes - gulls, moorhens, coots. Can you see other species?

Two of the lakes are now easily accessible and can be explored.

When you are ready to move on, head forward to the wooden bridge where there is another card
