The Conservatory
The conservatory was built in the 60s on the site of Marton hall next to the only remaining part, the collonade. This was a huge wood and glass structure with a pond and fountain as well as a range of exotic-looking plants from spiky cacti to leafy green palms and was open to the public to walk in and have a browse around. Sadly it fell into disrepair and was demolished in the mid-1990s.
Apparently the conservatory was once the home to exotic birds and even monkeys. Scroll down to read an article by Mieka Smiles on the subject.
The conservatory has been the backdrop to many staff photographs.
