Country Dancing
For many years schools in the Middlesbrough area took part in an annual programme of Country Dancing at Stewart Park. The dances included such delights as the Dashing White Sergeants and the Gay Gordons. Many weeks were spent practising the steps and honing performances so that each school could send its best team to perform on the day. Buses brought the children from their schools and parents, friends and families were able to attend and watch the spectacle. A great day for all concerned. Hear Lynn's story of her own experiences in the video below.
Having reached this park bench you have passed the museum which is behind you. In front of you is a large open space where country dancing used to take place. You may wish to go back and visit the Museum and maybe have a cup of tea and perhaps something to eat.
Next, you should continue round the sweeping path going slightly downhill. Keep veering torwards the right so you pass around the lakes. Beyond the lakes and just off the footpath you will see a tree with a QR card attached.
