The Boathouse on the Lake

Once situated on the lake near the Marton Crossroads entrance to the park, this boathouse is long gone and the lake itself has been re-landscaped in recent times. There are some nice pictures below. You may want to retrace your steps and see if you can work out the vantage point they were taken from.

The video below tells of a Christmas day on the lake

The original boathouse belonged to Marton Hall, created at the same time as the lake and other landscaping under the direction of Henry Bolckow, the owner.  Very little information is available, although members of the public make fond reference to this feature online on sites such as Memories of Middlesbrough.

One man thinks his father may have taken the photo below in the thirties, somebody else recalls in the fifties there was a night time military display, complete with flares, flashes and blanks being fired, and dinghies were also a feature at one time.  At some point, sadly, the boathouse fell into disrepair and was eventually demolished.
